This series consists of handwritten notes, draft manuscripts, critical comments and corrections, and published articles concerning the Histories Division publication, "Riviera to the Rhine, 1944-1945" a comprehensive history of Sixth Army Group's ground campaigns in France and Germany during World War II. Correspondence in the German language, in the French language, from historian Georges Coudry; and from many other historians and retired Army officers, including William J. Casey, General Garrison H. Davidson, and Colonel Thomas E. Griess, head of the U.S. Military Academy Department of History, is included. Correspondence from General Jacob L. Devers concerning the disputed defense of Strasbourg, France, and his interview notes concerning the crossing of the Rhine River are also included. Biographical sketches are included for U.S. Army generals, including Devers, Edward H. Brooks, Wade H. Haislip, John E. Dahlquist, Harry J. Collins, William W. Eagles, Lucian King Truscott, John W. O'Daniel, Robert Tryon Frederick, Henry Charles Wolfe, Norman D. Cota, Ira Clarence Baker, Benjamin Franklin Caffey, Jr., John H. Church, Alexander McCarrell Patch, Paul Langdon Williams, Arthur Riehl Wilson, and William G. Wyman. A 1948 press release announcing the award of the Medal of Honor to Staff Sergeant Gus J. Kefurt is included. Many sketch maps, and a few ceremonial photographs taken in France in 1980 are also included.

Robert Tryon Frederick (March 14, 1907 – November 29, 1970) was born in San Francisco, California. From West Point, he was commissioned in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1928.
